Ready for the World Series

To me, it hasn’t really hit met that much yet that I’m going to be playing Game 1 of the World Series in 24 hours. I just think about playing a game and trying to treat it like every other game and prepare myself the same way I always do. I’ll just wake up and do the same things I always do on a daily basis. For me, World Series Game 1 will be the same as Day One of the regular season.

That’s how I’ve tried to look at it since the playoffs started — just play and don’t worry about things too much — and it’s worked for me so far.

I’ve been swinging the bat real well in the playoffs and feel good and I think the main reason is I’m healthy. I think that’s the biggest thing. There are little things here and there during the year that nagged at me and when you feel healthy and feel good, good things usually happen. I’m really excited just to get out there and play. Adrenaline helps this time of year too when you play in these games and these situations. You don’t feel a lot of the aches that you go through in the second half of the season. To be healthy and playing in October is awesome.

You just have to use your adrenaline in the right way, because it can be good and bad. If you use too much adrenaline and get too excited, that’s when you get in a funk. The easiest thing is to just try to relax and try to keep it simple and do the little things. Try not to do too much. I think when you try to do too much, that’s when you fall into a bad groove.

The Rockies are a good, young team and they’re hot — real hot,
obviously. Hopefully they slow down against us and we come out and
swing the bats and pitch well. For us, it’s all about playing our game.
That’s all we can worry about is us. We can’t worry about the other
team. We always feel we can win any game as long as we go out there and
play our game.

We played these guys in June and they took two out of three from us, but we can’t take too much from that series that will help us in this one. Maybe you’ll remember the pitchers you faced or some of our pitchers will remember the batters they faced. But Interleague is always tough, it’s always in June, that’s early in the year. You can’t assess it that much. This Colorado team is a lot different team now.

These guys have won 21 out of 22 and that’s just remarkable. That’s unbelievable that they did that. But that’s in the past. It’s amazing that they put together a string like that just to get to the playoffs and then to get all the way to the World Series. It’s a great feat, but Game 1 is a whole different story. You can’t look at past records because those records don’t matter. Everyone is zero and zero. You have to put all that aside and play the game.

It’s obviously great to start the series with Josh, but to tell you the truth, I was laughing at everyone obsessing about Josh needing to pitch Games 4 and 7 for us to win the last round. I didn’t think Josh needed to pitch Game 7. I thought Dice-K got a bad rap and people were dogging him, but he pitched well. People get on Dice-K, but Dice-K has pitched well.

As for Josh, you’re confident as a position player when you start a series — or a game — with him taking the ball. You’re excited because you have the best pitcher in the game maybe, or in the American League, pitching for you. Every time he steps on the mound, we’re confident. That’s the biggest thing. Having confidence in your teammates and your pitchers is huge. We have confidence in all of our pitchers. It’s just that when Josh is out there, we feel at extra ease in the fact that when he’s on … he’s one of the best pitchers around. The guy is the best pitcher when he’s on — he’s shown it. Hopefully he shows it again in Game 1.

Youk, we could not be prouder of you guys. And as my husband and I keep saying to each other, “whatever else happens, Youk’s having an amazing postseason.” This makes us very happy, especially since you ALL are having an amazing postseason. We love you guys, and we are so freakin’ excited for you. GO SOX!

Youk, all i have to say is that you better be in the lineup in colorado, let dustin play short and you can play 2nd

Larry Bird used to say what was important was how they (Celtics) were playing at playoff time. With that in mind, Mr.Yoouuuuukkk, one doesn’t need to have the insight of Peter Gammons (though I highly respect and appreciate it!) to have confidence that 2007 is once again the Year of the Red Sox. Enjoy it, we will.

Wow! This was an amazing seires. Youk you are awesome! You had a great year. You have been my favorite player since you were on the Portland Sea Dogs.

i am soooo happy for you guys!! the world series. wow!!
every single member of this team has done amazing this year and i have conifdence in every one of you! good luck and have fun tomorrow!

I’ve always been a Red Sox fan, Youk, but when I was a kid, Will Clark was my favorite player because of the intensity and passion that he brought to the game. I tried to play that way, too. I see that in the way you play and it’s electrifying–for the fans and your teammates. It’s been great watching you develop since Portland and I’ll be wearing your #20 to Fenway for many years to come. Maybe some people doubted you guys, but the Sox fans who really know the game (and have played it) know that you guys have been a great TEAM this year. Now, go pound the Rockies!

Good Luck tomorrow! My son is now the same age (8) that I was when I started really learning the game and this postseason has been such a kick-start for him! I love teaching him about strategy and how to read the counts, etc. Thanks for all you guys do out there and thanks for giving me an opportunity to hold my little boy on my lap, teach him about the Red Sox and baseball, and watch that excitement in his eyes.

i agree with redsoxfan2772 you should play second base and dustin short stop (im dominican but julio is not doing his job)…

You should have confidence. If the Rockies take the lead you guys will have George Mitchell leak some more information to the press.

Cheaters just like the football team!

Hey Youk,

I saw a picture of your fiance in the Boston Herald today and there’s absolutely NO DOUBT that she’s only with you for your money. Because she’s a hottie and you look like you got hit in the face with a 98 mph fast ball from Joba Chamberlain!

I hated The Yankees in 1958,ok? It’s a great time to be a Sox fan, even though I can’t get in the park anymore; and the 2007 edition looks like one tremendous roster. Beware these Rockies, though; they’re going to be trouble, I guarantee. Losing the DH for 3 straight games in Denver is a huge advantage for Colorado; it’s worrisome. Taking the first two at home will be more crucial than in the ALCS. I believe Tito will respond properly to developing circumstances and you guys will take it to the house. May you and “Little Big Man” stay hot and lead us to the Promised Land. Good Luck and Go Sox!

Ccarls, you’re making quite the leap from the Sox using George Mitchell to win the ALCS. I’m not sure there’s enough memory on the website to get from one to the other.

Sorry to see that Wake cannot go. Seventeen wins, either on the road, or in Fenway (a hitter’s park, no?) cannot be overlooked.

The pitching depth will be critical, and even without Wake, there’s still a rotation I’d put up against anyone else’s.

The hitting…well, thirty runs in the last three games…if that continues.

Go Sox!!

Pwiner, slinging shallow insults isn’t making it. Rub the lamp and wish for maturity…

If you had a fraction of the class of the Indians (wish two)…

Never mind–I don’t think there’s a lamp like that out there that can help.

Go Sox

Thats the sign of a team with depth ,,here we are worrying about where youk will play in colorado,,,what manager would’nt want that problem,,lol,,chances r youk could be in right if a lefty pitches,,,if not,,most likely he’ll be off the bench,,I know its a tough situation,,but,,not a bad one to have

Keep doin’ what you’re doin Youk and things will continue to fall into place. Rockies are hot but they’ve had a long layoff, they haven’t hit against someone as hot as Beckett is now. Go out there and take both games at Fenway and put all the pressure on them. Good luck and GO SOX!

You were my favorite player at Spring Training this past year. Even met your uncle in the concession line and he was so proud of you, Kevin. You’ve worked very hard to get where you are today and Red Sox Nation appreciates it. Your big contract will come in due time. I hope it’s with the Sox and that we keep you around for a very long time. Best of luck in the WS and of course, with Enza. You make a stunning couple.

Good Luck team!!
Hope Josh does great from winning the MVP of the American league!!

GOOD LUCK SOX!!

Youk, great to see you in the zone. Stay loose and focused, you and Ped are the heart of deep Sox rallies.

Cheering for you here in the Florida chapter of the Red Sox Nation. By the way, great defense, you play the game right.

GO SOX!!!!

I just want to say how proud I am of how you have progressed as a baseball player. Several years ago, you were a minor leaguer just trying to keep a permanent spot on the roster. Now, you are an integral part of the lineup and are a huge part of this team’s success. You have not only contributed with your bat, but with your glove as well. I wouldn’t be surprised if you won the 2007 AL 1st base Gold Glove. Good luck in the World Series. Mazel Tov and GO SOX!!!!!!

We Believe. My son lives in Miami. We bought his plane ticket to Boston during the division series so the whole family could watch the Sox win it all once again! Have fun and enjoy! We certainly will. And thanks for the memories.

Youk, from one Bearcat to another congrats on getting to the World Series and best of luck to you.

Congrats!

Does the crowd at Fenway really make a difference in how everyone plays?

I have been really wondering about that…I know the stats show that homegames are bent toward the team, but I would like to know from the player’s point of view if it does indeed make a difference for the team and the individual player.

Youk, thanks for all your hard work on behalf of Red Sox fans all over the world. I have no doubt you guys will have World Series rings in a week — enjoy the champagne when you do!

Any chance you’ll be making it to Japan for the MLB/Japan Pro Baseball games? I sure hope you end up coming over here.

Take care of yourself, and good luck!

Message to Ccarls:

I have but one word for you, ya big crybaby…

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!

Hey Youk,
Congrats also on being named to the All-Kruk team on ESPN! Kruky said he loves that you SWEAT so much when batting! And boy, do you!

GO SOX! There’s a big Nation contingent here in AZ and we’re all terribly excited!

Youk,

First of all congrats on making it to the World Series, and a great season, especially September & October. As an avid Sox fan, I love the above recommendations about the lineup in Colorado. Imagine Papi at first, Youk at second, and Dustin at short. You gain another bat on offense, and still have 3 sure gloves in the field. It sounds like a win, win to me. Best of wishes in the Fall Classic, and look forward to seeing you at the Mohegan Sun.

Youk-
Went to my cousin Rob Inglish’s wedding last month – he knows I’m a lifelong Sox fan and told me you two went to high school together.

So now I’ve got another reason to follow your career. All the best!

Hey Pwiner, why the insults? Are you jealous? Why dont you post a picture of yourself and we will all take turns taking shots at you? Grow up and go find a Yankee blog that isnt closed for the season. You should be worried about the SAD STATE of your team not coming here bashing the Soxs or the appearances of the players. Last I heard Joba isnt throwing anything, maybe the remote while watching his Cleveland bug attack replays over and over. Now that is funny!!!

To Youk, Good luck tonight. Make RS nation proud. I know you will. GO SOXS!!!!!

Youk, I agree the Rockies had a great incredible streak, but you guys have had your intense mini streaks too, and that got us to the series. Keep the intensity going we are all behind you. By the way, I think you should take practice swings with an lumberjack ax instead of a bat. that would be intense. Go Sox bostonjimmie@21stcenturybaseball.com

Youk, Good Luck tonight and for all the games. Remember, when the others are screaming YOOOOOUUUUUK I am screaming DUUUUUDE! lol

I live in a house with a Pirate fan and a Yankee ******* fan. I also work with three Indian fans. I can’t begin to tell you how proud I am to be a Red Sox fan. I LOOOVE YOU GUYS!!!!! If you hear a loud obnoxious scream in the next few days, it’s just me down here in Lexington, KY cheering you on!!!! GO BOSOX!!!!!

I saw in the paper this morning that congratulations are in order, not only are you in the midst of postseason craziness, you also get engaged. Congrats!! I continue to wear my Youk jersey every day there is a game. In fact it is now expected at work. I’m rooting for a great World Series for the Sox!

Youk – This is Rob in Chapel Hill, NC. Been a Sox fan since the days of Yaz despite being raised in the NYC metro area. Just want you and the team to know that there is a huge fan base in Tarheel Country and we are excited and proud of the 2007 Sox! Send my best wishes to the team and a big thanks to Tim Wakefield for all of his wonderful contributions and great team spirit over the years.

WAAAAAHOOOOOO !!! The SOX are coming to COLORADO. I’m sure you guys heard of the ticket disaster out here, and unfortunately I could not get tix, thanks to the way the BUSH LEAGUE Rockies management handled things. I could re-mortgage and go to the scalpers, but sadly I cannot. SO, you need to sweep the ROX so the scalpers don’t make a dime on game 5. Don’t forget to dress warm. We may see some snow this weekend. Bring the skis and hang out for awhile after you win. SOX over the ROX on FOX in 4 ! It SINGS baby !

Hey Youk, nothing against you, you seem like a decent guy except when you are at the plate–you look a bit deranged–in fact you, Ortiz and Lugo could be the main characters in that movie, “Prison Break”; Manny looks like a homeless person; Coco should be on the cover of GQ (he saves your team with his class) Red Sox fans wake up! You are not in reality and the rest of the country is laughing at you. You cheer for a team who is supposed to win–having the 2nd highest payroll in baseball. Is that fair to any other team? Do you really think the Red Sox team is doing something great by going to the World Series? What is great is when you have the low payroll teams like the Rockies, Arizonia, Indians, etc. making it to the playoffs playing with sheer talent, guts and determination. These teams are made up of guys who have been together and really like each other and really play the game the way it is supposed to be played. Not like Manny who doesn’t care. You so called Red Sox fans don’t even care about the players–you just care about winning. Why do you think all the players want to leave Boston–Damon couldn’t stand it there; Manny wants to be traded each year. If they play great you cheer for them but the minute they are in a slump you are ready to put the back-up player in. You don’t know what it is like to appreciate the game and the players on your own team. What would the cocky Red Sox nation do if your GM had to put together a team with a low payroll-how would you feel now? Could you win your division–would you still watch the games. Probably not. It would be like a contest between five decent restaurant cooks and they had to face a team of the five best highest paid chefs from all over the country. The 5 decent restaurant cooks would give it their all and work with what they have and really care. The 5 elite chefs would laugh as they use their talent to make the best meal possible–and win almost every time. Is that something to really be proud of? I feel sorry for you Red Sox fans–you are living in a dream world and you do not have a chance to really appreciate baseball the way you are supposed to. You have a good group of guys on your team right now but it is obvious that each of those players would be much happier on a team where the fans would appreciate who they are as a person and player–not just because they are winning. Even the Yankee fans have more class than you fans. Go Rockies!

This from a longtime Yankees fan, who would rather go to Cooperstown these days and remember Billy Martin than having to deal with yet another beloved manager humiliated into leaving: go Red Sox. Baseball itself is more important than individual team fandom and individual sour grapes, as I discovered when I was a college kid in Boston, loving to see games at Fenway. Really wish I could be there tonight to watch Beckett decimate hitters with no idea what to do with the ungodly stuff he’s slinging past them. Youk, you and the guys have fun tonight — you deserve to.

yuks a f**KING CRYBABY WHO LOOKS LIKE HES ADJUSTING HIS ***** WHEN HES AT BAT OR SQUEEZING THE *** OUT OF HIS BUTT

The Rockies have a low payroll because the owners are CHEAP. Plain and simple. It’s tough to support them out here knowing that anyone who is worth anything, will be GONE next season. With the Yankees losing many of their key players next year, how long after the series do you think we’ll see George waving his checkbook under Halliday’s or Tolowitzski’s nose ? And you know what ?? Rockies management will let them go. The care more about MONEY than their fans. NOW DO YOU GET IT ? DUH ! The SOX payroll is a wise investment by their managment. You have to looks at the return on investment, not just the capital expenses *****. As far as fan appreciation. GIVE ME A BREAK. The Fenway Faithful have sold out the ballpark for YEARS. More YEARS than the Rockies have even been in existence. Years when the Yankees won everything. Years of coming oh so close only to fall short. I could not get World Series tickets thanks to the all of a sudden instant Rockies fans who could not name their staring lineup if their lives depended on it. Although I enjoyed a few game in Coors Field where I could not help but notice how many EMPTY seats there were. GO SOX and bring your BROOMS to COlorado.

I’m a west coast girl all the way. Born and raised in Seattle. My boyfriend is in the Coast Guard which brought him out here, but his heart is in Boston with you guys. He is from Cape Cod and I’m pretty sure he loves you and the rest of the sox more than me! You are inspiring to say the least and I’ve enjoyed every moment of this season watching you guys dominate in such humble fashion. Win or lose, play with class. Teamwork makes the greatest statement for you guys. Although the Rockies have played an amazing second half of the season, I’m rooting for my boys in Boston! Best wishes!

WAHOO41VM you are so correct about these sawks fans……..they are crybabies they hang on every pitch thruout the saeson and when the sawks are in a slump half of these clowns would be considered suicidal…then the sawks win a few and all is WELL what a bunch of fools i hope these clowns lose in 4 straight serve them right and then papsmear can do his jig in the lockeer room with no trophy hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhha

wahoo – the chefs/cooks analogy is perhaps the stupidest thing I’ll read all day – and I read some dumb ****. The elite chefs are elite because they are talented. If you Rockies want to get to our caliber of a franchise, keep your good guys, pay them well and keep winning. But I guess you’d have to have some fan loyalty to pay their salaries which means you folks would have to actually go to games. God forbid – even when they AREN’T winning. Good luck on that mission.

Oh yeah…and since when did this become a fashion show? I don’t care if Manny walks around with boogers hanging from his nose, I still love him and think he’s great.

diller – we hang on every pitch all season, every season, win or lose. We didn’t cry at all this year because, oh i don’t know…that whole first place thing…

I can’t wait to see the empty seats at Coors next season after the Rockies choke and get swept. Cheap baseball tickets, anyone?

diller47@rock.com & wahoo41vm@yahoo.com why are you here? You show that you have no class when you resort to name calling and making fun of people you know absolutely nothing about. Go spew your negativity elsewhere.

And for the record Johnny “Traitor” Damon left because the Sox wouldn’t overpay him…but look who did!

GO SOX!!

fyi idiots i live in ct.and i root for the giants

GREAT JOB in the ALCS!!! Very exciting finish! So glad it was in Fenway!

On the upcoming series, is there anything you guys can do about getting used to the altitude in Denver? It’s a factor that I haven’t heard anyone mention on ESPN yet. Are you guys nervous about it?

Kathy

Key West, FL

yes the GIANTS who have the all time home run king on their team

i am a die hard indians fan but i wanted to say congratulations and wish you good luck in the WS. the indians are a young team and will be back better than ever next year…just wait and see. i just have one more thing to say…GO ROCKIES!! IT WILL ALWAYS BE TRIBE TIME NOW!

And we all know what a class act BONDS the medicine man is

Hi Youk,

I think YOU are ten times hotter than the Rockies!! ;-) I don’t know WHAT pwiner44 is talking about! We’re going to be watching tonight, and this Michiganian and her family LOVE the Red Sox! (and the Tigers, and the Cubs, and Cleveland, too :-)

GO SOX!

P.S. Give Ortiz and Lowell a hug for me!

they wouldnt pay damon what he deserved so he moved on……………then they pay like 100 mill foe a clown from the orient ssoooooooooooooooo with that payroll they should win 80% ot the games every year

when you have proof then you can convict barry the mans never tested positive so chew on that redsawks nation

now i know why i left CT. You put the *** in Class diller.

It’s not negativity–it’s the truth! And Damon left because he wanted to and that’s why the Red Sox fans have turned on him now. You used to love him–he hasn’t done anything wrong to deserve your hatred toward him. He is still the same guy you all cheered for. But, then as you see–you really didn’t care for him as a person–just as a hitter. As I said before, I have nothing against the Red Sox players–they want to win and they are playing well. You fans are not setting a good image–you whine and act so “in your face” to the opposing teams–the rest of the country sees this and it is not a good reflection on Boston or the rest of you bean people. You need to take an example from those sincere Indians fans who always showed class and pride through the entire series–even when they beat the Yankees. Look out Boston–it wasn’t too long ago that you were at the bottom. And I wasn’t making fun of the Boston players–just stating observations. GO ROCKIES!!!!!

next thing you know you’ll be saying bill buckner got screwed cause he missed a grounder ….bad rap…..but the proof was there

geee jgmiddleton you left ct.nobody even knew

no…jgmiddleton’s my Dad. I’m his daughter. We both left CT and now represent SOX NATION in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado – but our baseball hearts will never leave Boston.

Giants fan? Why are you even here? Loser.

Hey diller47@rock.com: Are you kidding me? Since you’ve posted a 1000x you obviously don’t have any life at all. How ’bout a job? Got one of those? Get lost you perv.

im here to ruin your day…
middleton

.and like i said no one even knew you left the nutmeg state and o yes losers sell babe ruth, roger clemens ,pedro martinez johhny damon need i go on

So you root for the Giants – tell me, what would you do if Bonds decided to sign with the Dodgers? Any true fan of the Giants would be ticked off! (The Giants are my 2nd favorite team as I lived in CA and rooted for them for over a decade – so I know what I’m talking about). And if you say you wouldn’t , then I think you’re just fooling yourself. THAT’S why most of us have turned on Damon. That and the fact that he was once quoted as saying there was no way he could ever play for the Yankees!

btw middleton r u even old enough to be on this site

Keep it going tonight!! Have a great game, have fun, and keep playing your hearts out. Congrats on the engagement Youk – let’s hope you get a beautiful ring soon too ;) Wake will be sorely missed, but we all know we’d never have gotten this far without him in our rotation. Keep playing with all your passion – you guys are an inspiring team.

LET’S GO RED SOX!!

hey denien i love your mom so that mekes me a perv?????

By the way rmiddleton, if you had HD TV you would see that he does have boogers hanging from his nose…

Hey Youk,
Missed you in Chi-town but I’m very impressed with your bat right now. You and Pedroia have made all the difference early in the game and (lately)the latter half.

Yo! pwiner44@msn.com, I’ll throw you a 98 mph fastball, pr!ck.

first of all barry,if he plays next year will be in the american league…maybe oakland but if he went to the dodgers….[doubtful]that would be his choice he never played the media game and that what turned against him drugs well you have to show me the proof

I was using the whole “Bonds going to the Dodgers” thing only as an example of the betrayal we felt. I know that if he played next year, it would be in the AL. And FYI, I agree with you on the part about the steroid use – the speculation is overwhelming but I reserve the right to make a final judgement if and when there is any ABSOLUTE proof. I was at Fenway this year when the Giants played and I got to see Bonds launch a homer into the bullpens. I know it doesn’t make me popular with a lot of other Red Sox fans but I was standing and cheering.

All that being said, the Red Sox are – and always will be – my favorite team! I cannot wait for tonight and am sure to be dragging when I have to get up at 5:45 for work tomorrow morning! GO SOX!!!!!!!!!

i bet we could sell the boogers on ebay…hmmm

diller – don’t worry about how old I am. Worry about Barry’s head exploding next season.

Thanks Youk!!! For another great season of Baseball. Wishing the whole team my best for the series and rooting my heart out as always for my lifelong favorite baseball team. The Boston Red Sox! Go Yooooouuuuukkkkk!

Now in Seattle

Jim N

Youk probably sweats all over his girlfriend too! Do you see the water pouring from him big, bald dome during the game? He must reek of B.O.! Nasty!!!

Youk, I’m rooting for you man! Keep it simple and look for those pitches you can drive, just like you did in the ALCS vs. the Indians. I always knew you would emerge as a driving force for the Red Sox one day, and you proved it in the ALCS and in the regular season. Now you have a chance to become a legendary name in Red Sox Nation, so do what you do best and you know that ALL of RS Nation has your back!

It’s funny reading all of you posters trying to get under either Youk’s skin or trying to p-i-s-s Sox fans off. It’s given me so many laughs all day, and those laughs are all on you. Trying to address Youk? I’m so sure he’s not paying attention to you (and if he was he would be laughing AT you harder than I am), he’s probably out taking batting practice somewhere so he can drive some bombs over the monster tonight. You can say what you want, but the fact of the matter is that deep down you’re all jealous; jealous that your team isn’t in the place that either the Sox or the Rockies are in. Go ahead and mention salaries, and I’ll laugh even more. The Sox n Rox are the best in baseball and there is NOTHING you can say to deny it. LOOOOOOOOOSERS. HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU YOUK
i dont know about anyone else.. but i dont mind the sweat.. what can you say.. you work hard and as you can see it pays off.. i love how other teams fans come on here and say ****.. thinking it s going to bother us.. and if you even got to know red sox fans you would know their just like everyone else.. My cousins little boy had Red Sox day at his school today.. he said just about everyone was in Red Sox stuff.. even the teachers.. sounds pretty fun.. well hope you guys can win in 4 so i dont miss any of it :)

sarann<3

I just took a trip to downtown Aspen for some errands & lunch. Lots of RED SOX NATION out with all of their gear on, myself included. Lots of smiles & nods from the faithful…even in the heart of the Rockies. I love this team and all the fans.

Funny – I didn’t notice too many proud Rockies fans…

Youk, the Sox has made me walk tall among my friends who are all NY based. Its funny to seem them not answer when i call. Thanks. Bottomline: Us guys deserve to be here. Just hang back, stay loose and swat them over that green Monster. We have a world series to win. Good luck Sox.
PS- Please dont underestimate the Rocks. They’re on a hot roll, tho i hope the break has chilled them a bit.

Fantasy: Win it at fenway in Game 5 with a walkoff.

Not surprised to see that the low-life Yankee fans have crawled out of the sewers to spew their venom. Guess there’s nothing else for the losers to do, except try to pull everyone else down.

The Rockies are great (too bad we didn’t get Todd Helton) but the Sox are the best! Work hard guys and earn another ring!

GO SOX!

Thought this was a very interesting article. I’m not trying to be mean or anything or ’cause any disrespect but I just thought you should know how the rest of the world now perceives you. And I know most of you probably don’t care and that’s fine again I’m not posting it to throw it in your face or anything, just thought it was interesting and I found it very true. But yeah, not quite the city everyone feels for anymore. Becoming more and more like New York and the Yankees each day. Here it is…thanks. Interested what all the sox fans think. And please try to have an open mind to it if that’s possible.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/writers/phil_taylor/10/24/boston.essay/index.html?eref=T1

linkie no workie

Really…’cause I just tried it and it worked for me. Anyone else able to see the article?

Ok it worked.

So…people don’t like Boston fans now because we are no longer pathetic losers and we actually are able to finally gloat and smile and be happy for our boys? Hmmm…well, I guess I’ll take it. This ain’t a popularity contest. It’s baseball. And it’s the best baseball of the season…starting tonight.

Irs222 – I don’t think your comments reflect at all what that article says. I think you read what you wanted to from that article…but missed the point entirely.

“Maybe it says more about us than it does about you, Bostonians, but you were far more likable when you were long-suffering. Winning all the time might be fun, but it’s not nearly as charming. We felt for you when you would face another bitter winter after the Sox had found one more agonizing way to lose to the Yankees. We enjoyed those long, melancholy odes to despair that you would produce as the Celtics floundered in the post-Larry Bird years. Writers such as Stephen King and Doris Kearns Goodwin turned Boston’s mystique of losing into something grand, something literary.”

That quote sums it up. It says more about NON Boston fans than it does about Boston fans. Nothing here has changed in Boston or with our fans all over the world, except that we are now winning. Don’t expect us to give that up to appease the jealous masses.

Lets see how the series shakes out. How many times have the sox or yanks missed the playoffs in the last 5 years? How does that work with the salary theory? Just admit it is what it is and stop trying to explain away cold hard facts. Answer my 2 questions honestly and Ill leave and never come back to this sight.

Are Boston Red Sox fans in favor of creating a league-wide salary cap so all teams spend the same on their clubs salary?

Why?

Its like Tony Stewart taking his Nascar team down to the local track, beating everyone with street cars and saying “hey, I still had to drive down the track just the same as you. I won because I race better”.

Youk u are a inspirational baseball player and writer!
My prediction; The Red Sox will win in 6. The Sox win games 1 and 2 in Boston and win one in Denver and return to Fenway and win game 6 for their loyal fans.

That SI article just proves how jealous everyone is of BOSTON sports teams!!! Were we supposed to be miserable forever???Could it be that our teams are made up of good players that have heart and know how to play as a team?? If was about money than the Yankees should win every year since they spend the most. But!!! they don’t because they have NO HEART!!!!Stop being haters…We are not living in a fantasy world, last time I checked this is reality, the Red Sox are in the World Series and the Pats are undefeated. GO SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!

The payroll argument isn’t well thought out. Note where teams like SD, COL, AZ, and CLE are budgetarily. They went to the playoffs (SD almost), whereas most teams ranked 3rd-20th did not (Angels & Cubs exceptions).

Time invested in players is more important than money. Team infrastructure (Farm systems and Draft Choices) is more critical than the budget. The teams with staying power are the ones that develop their young players (Pedroia, Papelbon, Sizemore, Gutierrez). Then they sign them into long-term contracts.

Short-term, high dollar contracts aren’t proving very productive.

Our Father, who art at Fenway…

Baseball be thy game.

They Kingdom come,

Playoffs need to be won,

On Earth, then on to the Cask ‘n’ Flagon.

Give us this day, a perfect Papi,

And forgive us our losses,

As we forgive those,

Like Bill Buckner.

And lead us not, into desperation,

But deliver us from any losses.

For thine is the Power,

And the Glory,

To beat the Rockies,

Forever and ever….the Yankees ****

Praise be Pedroia, Youk, Papi, Manny, Lowell, Drew, Tek, Jacoby, Lugo, Beckett, Okie, and Pap.

A-men

GREAT START RED SOX!!!!! WAY TO GO DUSTIN AND YOUK!!!! GREAT HUSTLE YOUK AS ALWAYS!!! LETS GO RED SOX!!!!! LETS GO RED SOX!!!! HERE WE GO RED SOX!!!! HERE WE GO RED SOX!!!!

sorry uredsuk, kevin is not married yet, and his girlfriend is very nice!!! they r 2 great human beings!!! guess who on this site is a mean person, YOU!!!!!!

SORRY SHOULD BE, UREDSUX, AND YOU R MEAN!!!!!!!

THIS IS ONLY 1 GAME DOES NOT MATTER IF U WIN 2-1 or 14-1 or whatever. JUST REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED IN 2004, yankees killed RED SOX IN GAME 4, then RED SOX CAME BACK!!! 1 GAME AT A TIME!!!! LETS GO RED SOX!!!! LETS GO RED SOX!!!! HERE WE GO RED SOX!!! here WE GO RED SOX!!!!

Awesome-Kevin-we are rooting for you-so proud. Give em ****-cheering for you in Maine!

Youk’s interview with Chris Myers right after the game. “Ahhhhh, you’re going to have to ask them that question because I’m just a ******* idiot!!!”

You you should grow that beard so that it covers your whole face!

KEEP IT GOING RED SOX!!!! LETS GO RED SOX!!!!! LETS GO RED SOX!!!!!!! HERE WE GO RED SOX!!!! HERE WE GO RED SOX!!!!!

Had to see what was going on,,they r calling this ”HOCKEYS BLAB’ in red sox chats,,lol,,vk,,,hockey is a male,,lol,,I dont think he’s trying to steal youk,,,lolanyway Youk is having a great postseason as r a few others,,and you clowns on the salary stuff,,he doesnt make the big bucks yet,,well,,450k is big stuff to us,,,but its pocket change to what he WILL be making on a new contract…and hockey,,,easy on the youk

I guess you guys were ready for the World Series!! What a blowout. Everybody contributed and Josh Beckett pitched his heart out again! This is going to be fun. Go Sox!!!

Wow!! over 150 mil$ payroll.you guys should have a leauge of your own.It could consist of the red sox and the yankees.then you guys could play each other every day. What do you think??seriously

Seriously. as many lower budget teams made the playoffs as higher budget. The above stats bear this out. Teams 1, 2, 4, 8, 13, 23, 25, and 26 made the playoffs. 24 missed by a one-game playoff.

The hotter team wins in the playoffs.

Seriously…

Congrats to you and the Whole Red Sox Team and Nation.

Here I sit unlike I did in 2004, as then I was sitting in a lobby bar in Chicago’s O’Hare airport. some of you may recall I was the guy with the red Red Sox shirt, hat, mit and ball … drinking scotch and buying champagne for the bar. Tonight is different, I sit here at home quiet and relaxed. My team has won another ring and the Yankees are still looking for a manager and A-Rod is leaving them. I could not be happier. Quiet, comfortable, never to hear that we will never win another ring for 86 years. Never to hear that we will blow it. I am just happy, plain old content and happy. I raise my glass to the Rokies and their fans. What a great run, and what a class act. Next year may be your year. But remember, what ever it is you do in life.. never ever quit or give up. It may be tough you may get knocked down, but your day will come . Stand tall and believe.

THIS IS OUR CENTURY
